It has been over a year since I have performed on Vancouver Island.  The idea of returning to the Island excites me. In addition to performing tracks from my spring-time release, Portraits, I will be sharing some unreleased material that is slated for the studio this winter.
I am also very excited about sharing the stage with two rising talents, Milad Kasassiri and Chelsea-Lyne.

discovering new music is an interesting endeavor. there is no one pathway, and none more riotous to the next.

my record player and love for thrift stores provide me with plenty of ammunition for such discoveries.  lps that sell for fifty to one hundred cents. the majority of which were written, recorded and manufactured before i was born.

bob martin was a recent discovery. the album art and honest lyrics (featured on the back panel) caught my attention. to be honest, his stripped down album sounds simple yet wholesome. its the sort of album that any ‘folky’ artist would be proud of. including myself.

This song spoke to me. The beat is pretty creepy.

Working on some new demos. Keeping busy, and staying out of trouble.

One day. It will all. Make sense.- Common Sense.

Back in May I had a chance to explore Edmonton and Calgary. These adventures were a combination of tracing the family tree and pursuing artistic endeavors.

I explored a number of different neighborhoods while in Edmonton. Played a show at the Root Cellar with my good friend Sophie HeppelI (Third Branch/Dead Red Pine). Distributed CDs to radio stations, venue managers, and record stores. Then rode the Grey Hound to Calgary.

Calgary resulted in more exploring. Meeting venue managers. Making new friend’s at the hostel. Photoshoot and catch up with Stephen Exely regarding his upcoming article. I stumbled upon an evening of folk music and met  Zachary Lucky & Cary Maicher.

When I returned home I discovered that I charted on Edmonton’s CJSR Folk/Roots/Blues charts. Which I find really exciting. Exciting to know that my music has made it out of BC, connecting with others elsewhere on this planet we live.

Summer has flown by. Played a number of shows in southern BC. Worked on an article in Vernon. I have been camping and mountain biking lots. Written a half dozen new songs. Working on new demos and a forthcoming single.

I know it is not over yet, but it is hard to believe to believe it is August. I have a few shows coming up this week, and will have some fall concert announcements in the near future!

Enjoy the sunshine while it lasts. Thanks for reading.

Till next time,

- B
